We moved a lot throughout the West but I spent my summers with my grandparents in Wisconsin. They were biologists and studied birds so they shared their home with eagles, owls, and hawks. I learned to band marsh hawks and kestrel chicks, raise baby owls and take care of a variety of wildlife.

My grandmother, Fran Hamerstrom, was also an author of several books for adults and children. Here she is with her eagle.

My grandparents lived in a very old farm house with an outhouse and no running water. The best part was the pond.

My first cat was always curious and very well behaved with the birds at my grandparent's house. Here he's meeting a short eared owl.
My husband and I met in college and rode our bicycles across America, from the Pacific to the Atlantic. We knew we would live happily together after a journey like that. We continue our love of traveling but are now in Peterborough, New Hampshire. Dave works very hard with me on my stories, sharing ideas and offering great suggestions.
